What looked to be a storybook beginning to Corey Heim’s Late Model Stock Car career has ended with both of his wins on Saturday night being thrown out. Ryan Repko has inherited both victories, his first wins at the South Boston, VA speed plant.
Heim driving a car from the Lee Pulliam Performance stables was making his first start in a Late Model Stock Car on Saturday night. Heim, a regular in the Super and Pro Late Model ranks and has become a front-runner in both and finished fourth in the Pro All Stars Series Super Late Model feature as well on Saturday night.
During the inspection, Saturday night NASCAR Whelen All-American Series officials opted to check the rear end of the top finishers. Heim’s rear end visually appeared to have camber according to a member of a rival team and when checked with a tape measure by NWAAS officials it was confirmed to be out of tolerance.
On Monday, the part was to be sent to the NASCAR Research and Development Center for further inspection.
Team Owner Lee Pulliam confirmed to RACE22.com via text message that the disqualification would stand.
“After much deliberation back and forth they decided to disqualify us,” said Pulliam. “I don’t agree with it but it is what it is and I can promise you we will be back and will beat them again.”
Pulliam added that a lot of other teams will be scrambling to get their cars right before the next race.
The disqualification gives Repko his first win at South Boston Speedway. Repko finished second on the track in both races to Heim. He said he’d rather win on the track but knows a win is a win either way.
“I’d rather win them on the track but it’s still two wins regardless,” said Repko. “Finally great to get this monkey off our back and to win at South Boston is incredible. It’s the toughest local show anywhere and everyone who’s anyone has raced at South Boston.”
Lee Pulliam claims the disqualification was due to rear skew and not camber or tow related.
