MYRTLE BEACH, SC :: Jamie Weatherford took the lead on lap 75 of the 100 lap Southeast Super Late Model Series race at Myrtle Beach Speedway on Friday night and survived a couple of late race restarts to win the race.  Friday night’s race was the final race of the 2012 season after the race was postponed in November of 2012 due to rain.

Chris Chapman, who started second, was consistent all race long and stayed inside the top five.  He would finish second.  At one point, it did not appear as though it would be enough for him to win the championship but points leader Logan Bunning crashed on the final lap of the race, possibly securing the championship for Chapman.

Scott Hall started on the pole and led the first 16 laps before Bobby June, who started 14th, roared to the lead.  June would dominate the race but, in the closing stages, Weatherford and Ryan Glenski made a charge towards the front of the pack.  Weatherford inherited the lead on lap 75 and was on his way.

Two big crashes in the closing laps set up two Green-White-Checkered finishes.  Lucas Williams spun setting up the first GWC finish.  On that attempt, a big wreck involving Scott Hall, Michael Elliott, Tim Allensworth, Greg Welborn and Chris Townsend occurred..  That set up a second GWC attempt.  On the final lap, Bunning hit the wall, collecting Ryan Robertson and Jerry Miracle.

Chapman held off a challenge from Glenski for second, appearing to earn him the championship – what would be his third consecutive championship in the Southeast Limited Late Model Series.  We are still awaiting confirmation of the final standings from the Southeast Limited Late Model Series.

After being caught up in a wreck, Michael Elliott was transported to an area hospital for observation.  His condition is unknown at this time.

This is a developing story.  RACE22.com will have updates when they become available.
