PIEDMONT, SC :: Kenneth Headen doesn’t worry about points. He didn’t worry about them last year when he won three straight races in the final stretch of the Inaugural SouthEast Super Truck Series tour. This year, Headen will take the same approach. He’s racing for wins and will let the points situation take care of itself.

“Last season was one of those hard to believe deals,” Headen said. “When we first started the season, we were going to run to win races. We weren’t going for points or anything. We ran the best we could and we won the championship. It came down to four points entering the last race and we ended up winning it by one point.”

Headen’s not worried about a defense of his SouthEast Super Truck Series Championship.

“We talked about it,” Headen stated. “We’re starting off just like last year, go to Hickory and try to win. If we don’t, we’ll regroup and go to Anderson. We want to win races. If we win races, the points take care of themselves. If it comes down to points racing, that’s what we’ll do.”

Headen’s home track is Anderson Motor Speedway and that’s the track he looks forward to the most in the SouthEast Super Trucks tour.

“All the races are fun,” Headen explained. “My home track is Anderson so that’s on the top of the list. It’s our home track and I run well there. I like all the tracks. Lonesome Pine and Tri-County are fun. Newport is the fastest. Anderson’s my favorite though.”

Headen’s start in racing came from ownership of a Late Model program. He’s been racing in the Late Models for over a decade, having won the Greenville-Pickens Speedway Track Championship in 2004.

“I run a Late Model program, family owned,” Headen mentioned. “We ran a Late Model at Anderson and Myrtle Beach. Our home track was Greenville Pickens. The guys I race for in the SouthEast Super Truck Series for Kevin and Freddy Brookshire and Allen Leopard is the crew chief. We’re all good friends. They just came in to a truck deal, I tested it for them and it fell in my lap that way. We’ve been together the last two years, we’ve won 24 out of 36 races we’ve run and won two championships – one at Greenville Pickens Speedway and one in the SouthEast Super Truck Series.”

Headen will also race at Anderson Speedway during the full season since the SouthEast Super Truck Series tour does not conflict with his schedule there. His efforts all season are sponsored by Ron’s Remove Your Own Parts, Brookshire Collision, CRC Scrap Metal Recycling, Gene’s Alternator & Starter, Richardson Builders and Whistle 100.
