MYRTLE BEACH, SC :: Friday night’s running of the rescheduled Myrtle Beach 400 was worth the four month wait for Anthony Anders as he scored his fourth consecutive victory in an instant classic. Anders was awarded the victory after Ben Rhodes and Justin Milliken made contact on the final lap of the race.

Anders’ victory in the Myrtle Beach 400 was his fourth consecutive win on the season.  Last weekend, Anders won at Kingsport Speedway and then performed a weekend sweep winning twin races at Greenville-Pickens Speedway.  The last lap contact came when Milliken and Rhodes were racing for the lead.  Tryin to defend the lead, Milliken spun off the rear bumper of Rhodes and slammed the outside barrier.  Rhodes was penalized for the incident, handing the win to Anders.

The early stages saw a battle for the lead between Sam Yarbrough, who started on the pole, Matt Cox and David Roberts, who charged through the field from his 13th starting spot.  After racing between them for 100 laps, Milliken joined in and took the lead from Cox on lap 117 to led at the hallway point.

A big wreck took out several cars including Austin McDaniel, Michael Hardin, Rusty Skewes and Justin Crider on lap 133.  When the race resumed, Justin McDowell raced towards the lead.  Another wreck took out Roberts and Trey Marcham on lap 150.  Marcham had been running in the top-five throughout the race before the incident.

When the race resumed, Anders, Milliken McDowell traded the lead among them several times while Robert Tyler, Brandon Dean and CE Falk were coming towards the front.  In the closing laps, Milliken appeared to be running away with the lead until a late race caution set up an eight lap shootout.  Anders and Milliken raced side-by-side for the lead, exchanging the top spot several times.  Milliken eventually won the battle while Rhodes passed Anders for second.

On the final lap, Rhodes looked to the inside of Milliken for the lead.  Milliken took a defensive line to hold on to the lead and the two cars made contact sending Milliken’s car in the wall.  Rhodes crossed the finish line first but Anders was awarded the win.  Rhodes, who was penalized for rough driving, finished 16th (the last car on the lead lap).
