Dylan Zampa is looking to reignite his season this weekend when he returns to California’s Madera Speedway on Saturday for round six of the Nut Up Pro Late Model Series season.
Zampa, 15, kicked off his season at Madera Speedway by winning the opening round of the Nut Up Pro Late Model Series season to pocket a $5,000 payday. The victory came in his first start in the class.
“That victory has definitely been the highlight of my season so far,” said Zampa. “Winning in my first Nut Up Pro Late Model Series start was incredible, but that also raised the expectations and I want to win again.”
Since then Zampa has collected one more top-five and three more top-10 finishes, but a disappointing result in the fifth race of the season on June 29 at Madera dropped Zampa from second to third in the division standings.
“Our last race was really rough and ended after just 14 laps,” Zampa said. “We’re heading back to Madera intent on putting that race firmly in the rearview mirror. We want to go out there, perform well and challenge for the victory.
“Even if we don’t challenge for the win, a strong run in the top-five would be like a win for us. We’re due for a good run and I really think that I have the team behind me to get that done. We’re only 40 points out of the championship lead in the class too, so we’re still in the hunt for that. We just need everything to go our way.”
Saturday’s MAVTV-televised race, like the opener Zampa won in March, will pay $5,000 to the race winner. The chance to earn another $5,000 payday in front of a national audience has Zampa extra motivated.
“Obviously we want to win the big check, everyone out there does,” Zampa said. “Getting able to go out there and race in front of a national audience on MAVTV makes the race even more important. I’m confident we’ll go out there and perform well. We have all the tools to get it done, we just need to execute.”
