HUDSON, NC :: Marty Ward picked up the win in a thrilling SouthEast Super Truck Series race at Tri-County Motor Speedway on Friday night. Ward held off Kevin Leicht in a photofinish when the race came down to a Green-White-Checkered finish.
“I like racing these trucks,” Ward said. “They’re fun. They’re harder to drive than the Late Model Stock Cars. I’m just thankful I get the opportunity to drive these trucks when I can. It’s fun racing these kids. It seems like I’m the oldest one in the crowd when you’re looking around. We all need to race like we did today, race hard and race clean. I enjoyed it very much.”
The win was Ward’s first win of the 2013 season.
Kevin Leicht, who entered the race first in points with victories on the season at Newport, Anderson and Hickory, ended up finishing second by a fender to Ward.
“Marty had a little more forward bite than I had,” Leicht said. “I knew he was going to be tough. I thought we had a prayer there with the Green-White-Checkered but I knew he was going to be really hard to pass. It’s Marty Ward. He’s won everything. To finish second to him is awesome.”
Tim Lollis finished third in the race while Ed Surrett and Greg Bohanon rounded out the top five. Pole sitter Mart Nesbitt finished ninth and Kenneth Headen, who had a top three run going in the middle stages of the race, finished eighth.
