WHITEFISH, MT :: If last season was any indication as to what 15 year old Giles Thornton is capable of doing in a race car, then that coupled with his additional crew, this season should be a thriller. Thornton, who earned the INSSA Super Late Model Rookie of the Year and won the Montana Raceway Park Super Late Model fast time of the year, also had the opportunity to race at famed racetracks in the NASCAR late model series such as Hickory, South Boston Speedway, Motor Mile and Ace Speedway. These experiences in these type cars and challenging racetracks, will certainly help Giles transition into the NASCAR K&N West Pro Cars. His first race will be at Stockton 99 Speedway, May 4, 2013.
Charlie Thorne, team manger for Thornton, felt Giles excelled so much last year that he was instrumental in hand picking a team for the youngsters new season. The team added Travis Sharpe, a veteran crew chief from the NASCAR camping world truck series to serve as crew chief. Another added bonus has been securing Rick Crawford, NASCAR camping world truck driver, as Thornton’s NASCAR Consultant. During the off season, the team has also been busy building new cars in their newly expanded shop.
“I was extremely impressed with the chemistry that Giles and I had, I wanted to work with a young driver that was coach-able and fast, and Giles certainly is both of those”, Sharpe stated.
“I feel confident that we will be hearing a lot about this young man, in the upcoming season,” said, Rick Crawford. Crawford knows what it takes to be competitive and believes Thornton has a bright future ahead of him.
“I am excited about racing in the full 2013, K&N West Pro Racing Series along with a few selected super late model events,” said Thornton. “Staying focused consistently and being surrounded with positive role models like Thorne, Crawford, and Sharpe as well as the rest of my team, will be the key to a successful season”, says Thornton.
