The Sun Fun 101 is one of the three biggest races on the Myrtle Beach Speedway schedule every season. The 2018 edition was set to include a new element, a Super Late Model race. Unfortunately, due to a lack of entries, that portion of the event is being removed from the racing docket this weekend. The racing action will still include Late Models, Chargers, Super Trucks, Mini-Stocks and Vintage cars. This event is a lock-in race for the Myrtle Beach 400, so the winner of the event will be assured a starting position in the season-ending classic.
The Speedway had received an exceptional amount of interest for the Super Late Model portion of this coming weekend’s event and anticipated a very strong field of competitors. Unfortunately, when confirming with race teams this week, a myriad of mechanical issues and schedule changes severely reduced the size of the field. Based on the high standards of competition the Speedway expects for their fans the decision was made to eliminate the Super Late Model portion of the race weekend. The plan is to run a Super Late Model race next summer and hopefully make it a signature event for the class for the foreseeable future.
The remainder of the race schedule will still compete as anticipated. The Late Model portion will be the feature event of the evening with 101 laps of competition. The victor in that race will be guaranteed a starting spot in the Myrtle Beach 400 and a silver invitation for Daytona 1 Beach Madness. The Chargers will run 30 laps, Mini-Stocks event will be 25 laps, Vintage cars are competing for 20 laps and the Super Trucks feature will start off the evening’s activity with a 75 laps race.
