Former South Boston Speedway champions Matt Bowling and Peyton Sellers will be making their first ever starts in a Super Late Model in Saturday night’s Pro All Stars Series (PASS) 150 lapper at the historic racetrack in Virginia.

Bowling, who won the track championship in 2012, will be teaming up with Dicky Woodman and Woodman Racing, which has historically been one of the top teams in PASS’ southern Super Late Model tour.  Bowling is excited about the opportunity, which just came together last week.

“I’ve heard they’ve got really good stuff,” Bowling said.  “I’m really looking forward to it.  The deal kind of just came together last Friday.  Got it all worked out.  I’m looking forward to it.  Dicky’s a nice guy.  I don’t see why we can’t go out there and be really competitive.”

Bowling hopes to get a feel for the car quick and expects to be good enough to challenge for the win.

“I’m more confident going into it at South Boston where I have a lot of laps,” Bowling explained.  “If I was making a Super Late Model debut anywhere else, I wouldn’t feel as comfortable.  I’m going for the win.  Just got to feel it all out and see where we stand, get some laps in the car and figure out what it’s going to take to win.  Hopefully we can reach that goal and make that happen.”

Bowling said the plan just came together and that, as of now, he has not really set his sights on running any other Super Late Model races.

The 150 lap Super Late Model race is not the only race on Bowling’s radar.  He will also be competing for 150 total laps in a Late Model Stock Car, as he typically does at South Boston.

“It’s going to be a long night running three races,” Bowling remarked.  “It’s going to be interesting.  It’s definitely going to be challenging physically and mentally.  Hopefully I’m up for the challenge.”

Sellers, who won the track championship in 2005 and again in 2014, will be racing in a car owned by Michael Maresca and sponsored by St. Lawrence Radiology and Danville Toyota.  While Bowling will be racing for 300 laps, Sellers plans to just run the PASS race.

“We had planned on it,” Sellers said about running the PASS Race.  “I have not tested the car.  That is our game plan right now to race on Saturday.  I’ll pass on the Late Model Stock Car this week and just focus on the PASS Series.”

Sellers has a lengthy racing background, having raced in Late Models, NASCAR K&N Pro Series, NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, NASCAR XFINITY Series and the ARCA Racing Series.  However, he has never raced in a Super Late Model.

“This will be the first time,” Sellers stated.  “I practiced one but never raced one so looking forward to it.”

With the addition of two former South Boston Speedway track champions, one of which being a former NASCAR Whelen All-American Series national champion (Sellers, 2005), Saturday night’s PASS South Super Late Model race will certainly be a hot ticket.
