With Easter upon us, it means a lot of things to a lot of people. For race fans, it means the 13th annual Easter Bunny 150 for the Pro All Stars Series at Hickory Motor Speedway.
For Modified fans, it’s more about the 75-lap undercard that supports the 150-lap Super Late Model race. To Modified fans it’s not the undercard at all but the main reason they come to the track. This year’s Easter Bunny 150 support race is the second race of the 2018 season for the Southern Modified Racing Series.
The 75-lap race is expected to attract a solid field of the best Southern Modifieds and some Northern Modified invaders. A Northern Modified invader stole the show at Caraway Speedway during the first race of the Southern Modified Racing Series season. Jon McKennedy led every lap en route to a dominating victory in the 99-lap season opener. For McKennedy it was his second win of the weekend after picking up the NASCAR Whelen Modified Series victory at Myrtle Beach Speedway the day before.
This weekend another Northern Invader will be hitting the Newton, NC bullring with the Southern Modified Racing Series. Matt Hirshman is bringing his car from his home in Northampton, PA to battle the Southern Modified Racing Series best. He’s a two-time winner in the NASCAR Whelen Modified Series and this will be a rare start in the Southern Modified Racing Series.
Hirshman will have his hands full with the southern drivers who make up the Southern Modified Racing Series. Burt Myers, Tim Brown, Jeremy Gertsner, Brian Loftin, Mike Norman, Michael Clifton will be gunning for an Easter Bunny victory. Former series winner John Smith is expected to join the party for this weekends race as well as Tom Buzze.
Another driver who will be making his first start of the season but is a tour regular is Jason Myers. J Myers will be debuting a new look for the 2018 season with a burgundy and flat black paint scheme that is sure to be a favorite with the fans. J Myers will be looking to get his season started off right with a good run against some of the best in the business this weekend.
Make plans to attend the Easter Bunny 150 at Hickory Motor Speedway and not only will you see a great 75-lap Southern Modified Racing Series feature but also one of the biggest Super Late Model races in the country and definitely the biggest Super Late Model race in the Mid-Atlantic region.
