Winston-Salem, NC(April 5, 2012) — The last three weeks have went by slowly for Ronnie Bassett, Jr. as coming off his season opening win in the UARA-STARS Series race at Hickory, he’s been sitting idle since March 17th.
Ronnie, Jr. might have been sitting idle, but the last three weeks have given his Bassett Racing team time to prepare his Bassett Gutters and More Ford Fusion for this weekends race at Dillon Motor Speedway. Though Bassett might have had some extra time to celebrate his win at Hickory, on the contrary he and his team have put Hickory in the rearview mirror and have turned their attention to the 4/10 mile Dillon, SC track.
The young racer and his team didn’t make a trip to the Pee Dee area of South Carolina last season, but Ronnie, Jr. has plenty of laps on Dillon Motor Speedway. He made his first UARA-STARS Series start there on September 19, 2009 and made two additional starts in 2010. Heading into his fourth race on the tricky egg shaped oval, Ronnie, Jr. is carrying a lot of momentum, but he knows anything can happen on that track.
“I’m excited to go back to Dillon this weekend,” said Ronnie, Jr. “Really more than anything, I’m just excited to get back in the racecar, three weeks is too long to be out of the seat. Dillon is a tough little track, that’s hard to pass on and I found out the first time I ever raced there, just how tough it can be.”
Ronnie, Jr. was unable to finish his first start on the 4/10 mile South Carolina track after crashing late in the race and destroying his racecar. With a lot more experience under his belt, the young driver knows that Dillon can still be a tough place to race.
“We might have won Hickory, but when we get to Dillon, that win doesn’t mean anything anymore. Dillon is nothing like Hickory and while I think we’ll be good at Dillon, I know that it’s tight configuration lends itself to guys getting tangled up and make a single car wreck a big mess.”
Ronnie, Jr. and his teammate and brother, Dillon Bassett and the rest of the UARA-STARS Series, Late Model Stock Car tour will roll into Dillon Motor Speedway on Friday, April 6th for Testing from 3:00pm to 7:00pm. Then on Saturday, the UARA will take center stage in the Pee Dee region of South Carolina for the first UARA-STARS Series race in the area in over a year.
If you’re going to be in the area, be sure to come on out to Dillon Motor Speedway for what is sure to be one of the best races of the season on the 4/10 mile track, which starts at 8:00pm. If you can’t make it out to the track, you can still watch the race live on the internet at http://www.MotorsportsBroadcasting.com/ on pay-per-view.
