Track PR Release

Myrtle Beach, SC(November 18, 2012) – Sunday’s Myrtle Beach 400 will wait until next March 22nd to get the checkered flag.  Rains that lasted more than all day Sunday, postponed the SELLM Limited 100 and the Myrtle Beach 400.  The rains forced the races to be rescheduled until 2013.  Track owners and NASCAR officials gave a great deal of thought to try and make a decision that was in best interest of those on hand for the traditional race at Myrtle Beach Speedway.  Friday and Saturday’s action was concluded and in the record book.

Saturday nights racing action was highlighted by the first “Dash for Cash” for feature 100 lap winners from the 2012 season.  Five drivers made up the field for a $2500.00 winner take all race.  The front row starters from the Myrtle Beach 400 qualifying Matt Cox who earned the pole and second place qualifier Tommy Lemons Jr. earned the right to race in the “Dash for Cash”.  Race winner were Coleman Pressely, Justin Milliken 2011 speedway late model champ and former winner of the 400 Sam Yarbrough made up the starting line-up.  Sam Yarbrough proved he was the man who could race with the best as he went to front and beat Matt Cox, Coleman Pressely, and Tommy Lemmon, Jr. with Justin Milliken rounding out the first “Dash for Cash” field to run at the track.  Bob Lutz the promoter said, “I am happy with the first of these events, I am thinking of some new twist for the 2013 race”.  Many drivers now are saying, winning a 100 lap special event during the season, can easily save a team $2000.00 plus in tires for the Myrtle Beach 400.

Coastal/Pee Dee Super Trucks had twenty trucks on the grid with Jason Altop on the pole.  Only two cautions flew during the 100 laps.  Marty Ward of Marietta, SC a regular at Greenville-Pickens Speedway beat second place former multi time Myrtle Beach “Track Champion” at the finish.  Jimmy Wallace was third and Jamie Weatherford another of the guys who has won many championships at the track was fourth. Hayes Goodson son of Hal Goodson came home in fifth.  Last year’s winner was disappointing seventeenth as Stuart Ricks wasn’t able to repeat as the winner.

Saturday nights racing was led off by the Mini-Stock division with 22 drivers taking the green flag.  Pole man Bailey Miles from Hemingway, SC proved he was tough and the driver to beat.  He beat Michael Wells who was second, Kevin Jackson who is always a man to beat.  Former winner Brian Powell who was fourth and Myrtle Beach Mini-Stock champion Michael McKinnon was fifth.  Bailey Miles earned $1000.00 for the victory.

Second Generation driver Brandon Setzer, son of Dennis Setzer (driver in the top three divisions of NASCAR), scored the win in the 50 Lap Challenger division race at Myrtle Beach Speedway, Friday night.  He led every lap after starting from the pole position.  His dad Dennis said, “This is so pleasing to have him win at this historic racetrack”.  Archie Adams of McColl, SC was second and held that position from the green flag.  Third was Hickory, NC driver Chris Townsend.
