MOORESVILLE, NC :: The X-1R Pro Cup Series is making rules changes to open the series up to more competitors. A few weeks ago, the series announced that they would be running American Racing Tires in 2014. This year, they are also approving more engine packages for competition and said more announcements will be made at the banquet.

“We’re going to approve the Hamner Super Late Model sealed motor with competition with us and we are going to approve the Yates spec engine,” Chris Ragle, X-1R Pro Cup Series Director of Operations and Marketing, said. “There are a couple elements out there. We’re taking what’s out there to try to attract more racers. It’s no hidden thing that we need more cars. We’ve had calls from different people which is positive. It’s a wait and see game.”

Ragle said the American Racer tires will be better for the series as American Racer will be doing a dual compound deal.

“The tire deal, it’s a better tire,” Ragle explained. “Compared to what Goodyear had, we’re doing a dual compound which makes for better racing. All Goodyear wanted was one compound. It goes back to the BF Goodrich days. It’s got more grip. American Racer is all for it and they’re a big supporter. We’re paying some of the best purses in the country. We’re excited. We’ve got our banquet on Saturday and we’ll focus on 2014 starting Monday.”

Car counts improved in 2013 which saw Clay Rogers score his fifth X-1R Pro Cup Series championship. Five different drivers won races in the 15 race season. In 2014, the Pro Cup Series will visit 10 different venues in its 12 race schedule.
