TROY, NC :: Tommy Lemons, Jr. scored his first win of the season at Southern National Motorsports Park in the third race of the Dirty Dozen series on Saturday night.  His win came in the second of two twin 100 lap Late Model Stock Car races.  Lemons also scored a fourth place finish in the first of the two races.

“This was an awesome night for our entire team,” said Lemons.  “The entire team worked hard for this.  I knew we would win one of these races and I’m glad we did it at Southern National.  We’ve definitely made a statement that we can compete everywhere.”

Lemons qualified ninth and, in the first 100 lap feature, he worked his way up to fourth.  The top seven finishers from the first race were inverted so Lemons started the second race in fourth, exactly where he finished in the first race.  He continued to pass cars and worked his way to the front of the field.  He took the lead on lap 30 and led the final 70 laps on his way to his first win of the season.

“I owe it all to my crew,” said Lemons.  “My crew chief (Brandon Davis) worked his butt off all day and this team worked really hard all night long.  It just feels awesome to finally win one.  We’ve been close all season.  We’ve had several top five finishes so it feels nice to complete the deal and win one.”

Lemons has struggled at Southern National in the past and said it was a relief to finally win at the high banked track in Lucama, NC.  In 2012, Lemons scored only three top five finishes but could never win at the track.  Saturday night’s win was his first career victory at Southern National Motorsports Park.

“It feels good to get that monkey off our back,” remarked Lemons.  “We’ve struggled at Southern National.  It hasn’t been our best track.  It’s just such a relief to win here.  Hopefully, when we get to Motor Mile, we can start making a charge in this Dirty Dozen deal.  I’m confident about the Dirty Dozen, now that we’ve shown we can compete at Southern National.  I’m sure we can win some races at Motor Mile in that deal so we’ll keep working at that.”

Lemons’ next race will be in South Boston Speedway’s twin-75 lap races on August 13th.
