TROY, NC :: Tommy Lemons, Jr. returned to victory lane for the second time of the 2013 season at Southern National Motorsports Park on Friday night. Lemons started second and took the lead on lap 35 and won the first of two 75 lap twin races at Southern National.
“Our car is just awesome,” said Lemons. “We’ve finally got this place figured out so I hope we can keep this up. The crew did an amazing job all day long getting this car dialed in and making it fast so I’m glad we could win this race.”
Lemons qualified second for the race and worked his way to the lead on lap 35. After winning the first race, the top-five were inverted forcing Lemons to start fifth. He would go on to finish third, resulting in podium finishes in both 75 lap races.
“Our car was consistently good all race,” said Lemons. “We got the lead on lap 35 of the first race and went on to win. Like I said after the last race we ran here, we have struggled here at Southern National in the past. I’m glad we’re finally getting our bad luck and bad performances here behind us and winning races.”
Lemons hopes he can ride his momentum in to Motor Mile’s season opener which will be the fourth round of the “Dirty Dozen” series set up by Southern National and Motor Mile Speedway.
“We know how to win at Motor Mile,” explained Lemons. “We’re pretty good in the top grove there so I feel we can run strong if we can get our car up there. Now that we’ve got our woes at Southern National straightened out, I’m confident we can make a charge at this Dirty Dozen crown.”
Lemons has scored two wins in the 2013 season, both at Southern National Motorsports Park along with seven top five finishes in ten starts.
Lemons’ next race will be on Saturday, April 27th at Motor Mile Speedway.
