Wilson Takes Backup Car to Caraway Victory

RANDLEMAN, NC :: After a string of top-five finishes, Ryan Wilson finally scored his first Late Model Stock Car victory of the season at Caraway Speedway on Saturday night. Wilson was fast all day but had to pull out a backup car that had no laps of practice on it in order to qualify and run the race after discovering an engine problem during final practice.

Wilson bounced off the wall in qualifying but qualified fifth in the car and redrew second. From there, he took the lead and dominated the entire race on his way to his first win of the season.

“All the crew guys did awesome,” said Wilson. “It was a challenging day between switching cars and fixing the car after we bounced off the wall in qualifying. These guys just did an impressive job all day and really worked hard. It’s great to bring a win home for them after all the work they did.”

Wilson said it was a long week for his team preparing for Caraway and getting ready for Richmond.

“We were at the Richmond test on Tuesday,” said Wilson. “Between working on that car and working on this car, it’s been a long week for these guys. The engine problems made it even longer so it’s just satisfying to reward this entire team with a victory after all the work they put in this week. We’re excited to finally win a race and gain more points towards the track championship.”

Ryan Wilson entered the race four points out of the points lead in the Caraway Speedway standings.

Wilson’s next race will be on Thursday when he competes in the Denny Hamlin Short Track Showdown at Richmond International Raceway. MRN Radio and RACE22.com will have live coverage of the event.
