Lee Faulk Racing and Development will be fielding three cars during the third annual Meltdown Race at South Carolina’s Greenville-Pickens Speedway on Saturday, Feb. 3.
The team plans to field a pair of super late models in the 150-lap super late model event, which will pay $10,000 to the winner, for veterans Michael Faulk and Jeff Fultz. The team will also field a car in the 75-lap, $2,500-to-win limited late model race for 18-year-old Brody Pope.
“This is going to be a lot of fun,” said Faulk, whose car will carry sponsorship from Woodard Pools and CCS Cabling on Saturday. “We’ve put a lot of effort in for this race to go and win that $10,000. I know there are a lot of good cars coming from out of state for this race, so it isn’t going to be easy.”
The car Fultz will be driving is a new chassis built by Fury Race Cars that was recently completed and put together at the Lee Faulk Racing and Development shop. Fultz, co-owner of Fury Race Cars, was the obvious choice according to Faulk to help the team shake down the new car at Greenville-Pickens.
“Jeff’s going to be driving a new Fury car that we just finished for us. That’s going to be a lot of fun,” Faulk said. “We’re good friends with Fultz and everybody at Fury Race Cars, it’s going to be a good time this weekend. Jeff gets around that place better than anybody, which is one big reason why we wanted to work with him.”
Eighteen-year-old Pope, along with his brother Nolan Pope, recently announced they had signed with Lee Faulk Racing and Development for the 2018 season. Saturday’s race at Greenville-Pickens will be Brody Pope’s first with Lee Faulk Racing and he’s looking forward to getting the season started on a positive note.
“I think it’s very important to start off the new season with strong runs and a strong finish,” said Pope, who has considerable experience behind the wheel of a Legends car. “I’ve never been to Greenville before, but am excited to turn some laps and have some fun in a top-notch car that the LFR crew will surely bring.”
Faulk said the goal this weekend for Pope will be to turn as many laps as possible and get comfortable in the car, which Brody will share with his brother Nolan throughout the season.
“We built a brand new Marlowe/PRW late model stock car for Brody and Nolan Pope, so we’re going to be shaking it down for the first time this weekend in the limited late model race and getting Brody his first race of the year,” said Faulk. “Our goal is to get Brody comfortable in the car at a track he hasn’t been to and make sure he runs a lot of laps so he can learn as much as he can. We want to get him as much seat time as we can so we can see what we need to work on and we’ll move on from there.”
Pope is excited to begin the new year at Greenville-Pickens and is looking forward to working with Lee Faulk Racing and Development throughout the season.
“It means a lot to me to be able to run with the LFR crew knowing what they’ve done in the past and knowing they can get the job done,” Pope said. “They always bring fast cars every weekend, so I can’t wait to get the season kicked off.”
