Kingsport Speedway in Tennessee and Lonesome Pine Raceway in Virginia will both honor Roger Neece, the Street Stock legend with over 200 wins who passed away on Monday, during this weekend’s races.
Both tracks, which fall under the same management with Karen Tunnell at the helm, will run races titled the “Roger Neece Memorial”. Tunnell was a longtime friend of Neece and watched him win many of those 200 races.
“We were very saddened at the passing of our friend Roger Neece,” Tunnell said in a Lonesome Pine Raceway press release. “Roger leaves a great void in our racing family. He will always be our ‘Man in Black’.”
Kingsport Speedway will run on Friday night, its first Friday night race of the season, with 60 laps of Late Model racing as well as racing in the Street Stock, Pure-4, Rookie Pure-4 and Pure Street divisions. Racing will begin at 8pm.
Lonesome Pine Raceway’s race on Saturday night will be the opening race of the 2015 season at the track nestled in the Appalachian Mountains in Coeburn, Virginia. On tap at The Pine, twin 35-lap races for the Late Model Stock Cars as well as racing in Modified Street, Mod-4, Pure 4 and Rookie Pure-4 divisions. Racing will begin at 7pm.
For the drivers and fans, the races provide an opportunity to honor a fallen friend and an icon in racing in the Tri-Cities region.
