Karl Budzevski got redemption and scored the win in the first of two Limited Sportsman races at Motor Mile Speedway on Sunday with a late race pass on Scott Lancaster.
Budzevski passed Scott Lancaster, who started on the pole and led almost the entire race, inside the final 10 laps. The victory was sweet for Budzevski who has had a lot of bad luck this season, capped most recently by a disqualification from a runner-up finish on June 13th.
“When we first had that green flag run, Scotty got out,” Budzevski said. “I wasn’t going to try to track him down. I hoped for another caution. He backed up to me on that long run. I wanted long runs. It was still tight, I had to use the apron some … I’m just happy we got a win after all we’ve been through. The car is not torn up so we can run the second race.”
Julia Landauer, who entered the race undefeated, had to start the race in sixth as a result of winning the first two races this season. She raced her way to a second place finish, passing Scott Lancaster on the final lap. Her race was not without incident however. In the opening laps of the race, Daryn Cockram crashed off Landauer’s front bumper.
“We don’t know what happened in the first couple laps,” Landauer said. “We were side by side and then went toward the wall. Cosmetic damage mostly but it did affect the handling. Pretty good race. Hopefully we’ll have a stronger performance in the second race.”
Lancaster finished in third after leading over 40 laps.
“Normally, we like long runs,” Lancaster said. “We got a little free right there. That’s textbook for all these drivers … Karl gave me room, ran me clean. I gave Julia room.”
Taylor Ransom, who entered the race second in points, got swept up in an accident early in the race putting a dent in his championship hopes.
The second Limited Sportsman race still has yet to be run. The races can be seen live on RACEFEEDX.com.
