Sometimes it’s just your night.

And Saturday night at Bowman Gray Stadium belonged to Jason Myers of Walnut Cove. He powered his way to the pole and the win in the first race for the Brad’s Golf Cars Modified Series. David Calabrese of Toms River, NJ made
history by winning the second race.

“This car could not be any better tonight,” said Myers after turning in a seemingly unbeatable performance. “You couldn’t have have asked for much more. We sat on the pole and won the race, and we had a super fast racecar. For
these 25-lappers that’s where it’s at: You need some luck, but you need a super fast racecar.”

Tim Brown of Tobaccoville qualified behind Myers and gave him a few bumps to the rear during the race, but ultimately Brown’s new machine isn’t where he wants it to be in 2015. But Jason was still very aware of Brown on his
bumper. “You can’t ever turn your back at this place,” said Jason Myers. “I knew I had a faster car, and I don’t expect a man to knock me out when I’m faster. I expect him to go to work and get his car faster – and that’s what Tim’s going to do.”

Myers grabbed the checkered with Brown finishing in second. Randy Butner of Pfafftown came in third.
The “Madhouse Scramble” draw sent Joseph “Bobo” Brown of Lewisville to the pole for the start of the second race. Veteran Robert Jeffreys of Winston-Salem started beside him. Jeffreys and Brown bumped as they raced for the
lead, with Jeffreys spinning out.

As Joseph Brown moved into the lead, David Calabrese moved up to challenge him. Calabrese delivered a few stiff shots to the rear bumper of Brown – who held on for several laps until finally spinning on lap 8. Calabrese moved
into the lead. “The number two car [of Brown] was just way too free. We bumped him and slid him out of the way,” said Calabrese.

Calabrese fended off a challenge from Junior Miller of Winston-Salem and ended up taking the checkered flag. It was his first ever win at the Stadium, making him the 130th driver to win a featured event in the 67-year history of
Bowman Gray Stadium. His name is added to the list that includes winners such as Richard Petty, Ralph Earnhardt, Junior Johnson, and Glen Wood.

“It gives me chills whenever I think about it,” said Calabrese. “This place has been around for decades and decades – a win here is pretty awesome. I hope there’s a lot more to come for me.”

Junior Miller finished on his bumper in second, with Michael Clifton of Walkertown taking third.

In the Farm Bureau Insurance Sportsman Series, Robbie Brewer of Winston-Salem held on through the nudges from Zack Clifton of Walkertown, winning the first 20-lapper. In the second race, Chase Hunt of Lexington was sitting
in third while Billy Gregg of Lexington and Daniel Ward of Winston-Salem fought for the lead on the last lap. As the cars shoved each other and piled up, Hunt was able to bolt into the lead and take the win.

Saturday was the Whelen Street Stock 50 – the longest race of the season for the Q104.1 New Country Street Stock Series. Steven Berrier of Germanton, K.J. Stimpson of Lewisville, Doug Wall of Pfafftown, and Derrick Rice of
Kernersville all traded the lead back and forth during the wild race.

Stimpson bumped Berrier out of the way to grab the checkered but was later disqualified in post-race technical inspection. Berrier was declared the winner.

In the McDowell Heating & Air Stadium Stock Series, former champions Chuck Wall of Lexington and A.J. Sanders of Mocksville each brought home a win in a 15-lapper.
