BEAR CREEK, NC :: Late Model Stock Car racing is diverse in many ways.  There are drivers looking to move up the ranks in to NASCAR and then there are drivers that just want to race and have fun.  That’s what Dan Moore is all about.  Moore, who won two races at Caraway Speedway in 2012, races for a hobby, but he takes it seriously.

Moore is returning to Caraway Speedway in 2013 with a Hedgecock race car sponsored by Moore’s Welding and Crane, Wake Stone Corporation, Cox Racing Engines and Campbell Paint and Body.  He anticipates running the full season.

“We’re going to start off running most of the season,” Moore said.  “I don’t know if we’ll run the full season.  We’ll have the same car and engine as last year.  We fuel our hobby and have fun at it.  That’s the main goal is to have fun.”

Moore has been racing since 1995.

“My first season was 1995, we started in limited,” Moore explained.  “We were looking for a racing hobby and we came across a guy that had a limited car for sale.  That’s how it started.  I had run Enduro races before.  We’ve run one season at Myrtle Beach several years ago.  We’ve run some down at Southern National.  Most of my career’s been at Caraway because it’s local.  It’s close to the house and the family likes to go so it’s a good location for them to be able to go as well.”

Moore says the competition at Caraway is tough.  On any given night, he feels most of the cars in the field can win.

“All our cars are good guys,” Moore stated.  “The top 5-8 cars are winning cars.  I don’t know how many winners we had last year but it was quite a few different ones.  It’s pretty competitive.”

Moore feels he can be competitive. He had solid efforts in 2012, scoring two victories and finishing fifth in points.

“I think, last year we finished fifth and didn’t run the last five races,” Moore remarked.  “A few years ago, we finished second in points.  It’s not out of the question but you have to have a lot of luck and not have bad luck.  It’s an accomplishment if you can do it.”

Moore isn’t one of those who wants to climb up the racing ladder in to the ranks of ARCA and NASCAR.  He’s happy with what he’s doing and has no intentions of quitting.

“It’s a hobby,” Moore commented.  “We take the competitive level serious.  As far as using this as a stepping stone like a lot of drivers do who go on and make it a potential job career, that’s not our goal.  It’s a competitive hobby and we take it serious.  There are a lot of good drivers and it takes a lot of money to do it now.”

Dan Moore’s first race of the 2012 season will be the Caraway Speedway season opener on March 10th.
