SOUTH BOSTON, VA :: CE Falk put Lee Pulliam’s coronation ceremony on hold and collected a $3,000 bounty that was placed on the destined two time NASCAR Whelen All American Series (NWAAS) National Champion.
Lee Pulliam won the first of two twin 75-lap Late Model races at South Boston after a classic duel with Garrett Campbell. The two raced side by side for the lead and Pulliam prevailed both times when the lapped car of Mark Keesee blocked Campbell. That allowed Pulliam to score the win.
“We had a really good hot rod,” Pulliam stated. “Garrett Campbell was here tonight and he made that high side work. I was trying to race him hard and race him clean. We raced door to door for what felt like 50 laps. We finally got by him there and were able to pull away.”
The top eight cars were inverted for the second race which put Myatt Snider on the pole and moved Pulliam to eighth. Pulliam had a hard time in the race which featured a lot of action. Peyton Sellers had a chance to win but was penalized after Austin Thaxton spun off his front bumper. That put Myatt Snider back out in front. Josh Oakley took the lead from Snider on a late race restart when the two made contact ending Oakley’s run.
On another late race restart, Falk used the outside line to his advantage and soared past Snider. Falk then survived one final restart to score the win over Snider, who scored a career best second place finish, and Frank Deiny, Jr.
“We had a good car in the first race,” Falk remarked. “We got up to about fourth or fifth or something like that. We got killed going in to turn three and lost a bunch of spots. We made some big adjustments. The car never really came to life until about 30 or 40 to go (in the second race). We were able to run down some of those guys and stay patient. The cone restarts have been good to me this year. We got outside of Myatt and were able to drive around him and clean air was huge tonight.”
Pulliam, who was never a factor, finished eighth in the second race.
“We used our car way too hard in the first race,” Pulliam explained. “We wore out both right side tires. We had no right front or right rear. We just held on to what we could. That’s part of it. We stuck it out and did the best we could there. It was a heckuva a race up front. They were dicing it up and racing hard for that bounty money and congratulations to CE Falk for that.”
Pulliam will attempt to clinch the NASCAR Whelen All American Series National Championship at Motor Mile Speedway on Saturday in the 250 lap, $10,000 to win BAIRD Drywall & Acoustic, Inc. BARNBURNER presented by LINE-X of the Blue Ridge.
Ross Kenseth scored the win in the PASS South race, sweeping the season at South Boston by winning both PASS races held at the track. Kenseth led the most laps but had to get around Jared Irvan on a late race restart to score the victory.
