CALLAWAY, VA :: Kyle Dudley rebounded from an incident that occurred last week with Steve Dalton and swept both Late Model features at Franklin County Speedway on Sunday night.  The wins were Dudley’s fourth and fifth on the season as he extended his points lead over Wesley Thomason in the track championship standings.

Kyle Dudley had to race his way past Johnny Cash in the first race to pick up the lead.  After trailing Cash for several laps, Dudley got the lead on the 12th lap of the race and picked up the win over Johnny Cash and Jason Lawrence.

“This feels awesome,” Dudley said.  “We didn’t know we were coming here until about 12 o’clock today.  The team has thrashed on this car. I can’t thank everybody enough for putting the time and effort in to getting this thing back together.  It was mangled.  They loaded it today.  We didn’t get here until late and it all worked out.   Awesome race tonight, it was a lot of fun.”

Cash’s second place finish was his fourth runner-up finish in the Late Model class this season.

“The car was great, it just got a little nose heavy on the long run,” Cash said.  “It’s only a short sprint race but I was doing good.  It just gave up on me.  I couldn’t make up for everything.”

The second race saw a classic duel staged by Dudley and Lawrence.  Lawrence led the early laps of the race before Dudley challenged.  Dudley and Lawrence raced side-by-side for most of the race before Lawrence slipped, allowing Dudley to inherit the lead and win the race.  Lawrence finished second and Cash finished third.

“Lawrence was in front of me and he was just a little bit slower,” Dudley said.  “I had a better car.  It took a lot of patience but he finally slipped up and we were able to get under him.  I’m glad it all worked out.  Everybody raced clean and nobody was wrecking anybody.  I can’t believe we got here and won both of these races.  I can’t say enough about this crew.”

Lawrence’s start was his first start on asphalt in a Late Model Stock Car since being suspended by NASCAR in 2006 after an indent at Motor Mile Speedway in Radford, VA with Philip Morris.  He had been running dirt races at Wythe Raceway in Rural Retreat, VA and in the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series.

The next race at Franklin County Speedway will be the Moonshine Classic on Saturday, September 21st  which will feature a 100 lap Late Model race as well as Southern Ground Pounders Vintage Racing Club and all other local divisions.
