PENSACOLA, FL :: DJ Shaw scored two wins on the season in the PASS North tour and finished third in points. He had high expectations entering the Snowball Derby but a sub-par qualifying run has dampened his hopes and expectations. Now, Shaw’s hoping to make the race.
“It’s not looking good right now,” Shaw said. “We’re a little under the gun. This is the worst we’ve been since we got here this weekend. We’ve just to have at it. We start deep in the field in that last chance race and we’ll see if we can have a miracle happen.”
Shaw will also attempt to make and compete in Saturday night’s Snowflake 100.
“If we can get it in the show, I feel like we’ve got a good car,” Shaw stated. “Again, we’re right on the brink of not having a fast enough time but the car’s driving nearly good. We’re just down a little on the motor. We need to get in the race to shine.”
When asked if it was a matter of competition, Shaw said he’s competed against many of these drivers before and felt he was just struggling with the racetrack.
“It’s just the track,” Shaw explained. “I ran with these guys at Nashville. We’re struggling here. Can’t say it’s the competition because the car’s not good. We’re missing the boat on setup and that’s the only reason we’re not at the top of the chart.”
Shaw will have to compete in Saturday night’s 50-lap Last Chance Qualifier race and finish in the tou-four if he’s going to race in Sunday’s Snowball Derby.
