FAIRLAWN, VA :: Following a successful inaugural campaign, “The Dirty Dozen” will return in 2014 to Motor Mile Speedway and Southern National Motorsports Park.
The Late Model Stock Car enrichment program will maintain its original framework, with each track hosting six events structured exclusively under the “Twin” format for a total of 12 feature races.
The $10,000 points fund remains, with $3,000 in prize money allotted to the champion. The runner-up will bank $2,500, and the third place finisher will collect $2,000. The fourth and fifth place finishers will receive $1,500 and $1,000, respectively.
That isn’t all Dirty Dozen participants will be competing for this season, however. “The Dirty Dozen” is receiving an ‘eco-boost’ courtesy of Ford Racing in 2014.
A contingency program has been established for participating racers who compete with a Ford built or crate engine. Ford Racing will award $200 in prize money to the winner of each Dirty Dozen race in 2014, provided the racer has a Ford powerplant under the hood. $100 will be allotted to runner-up finishes, and $50 will be given to third place efforts.
Moreover, the Ford Racing contingency program includes the creation of the Ford Racing Hard Charger Award, yet another monetary bonus to “The Dirty Dozen” in 2014. The $500 award applies to all Dirty Dozen participants –regardless of engine choice– and will be presented upon completion of “The Dirty Dozen” to the racer who executes the most passes throughout the season in Dirty Dozen contests.
Last season, the inaugural installment of “The Dirty Dozen” came to a dramatic climax on the final night of the series at Motor Mile Speedway. Lee Pulliam edged out Deac McCaskill for the title by virtue of a tie-breaker after the pair finished the series deadlocked at 528 points apiece.
As in 2013, the champion will be the driver completing “The Dirty Dozen” with the most points, earned throughout the season at Motor Mile Speedway and Southern National Motorsports Park. Points and purses awarded to participants in “The Dirty Dozen” will be independent of each venue’s weekly track program.
Motor Mile Speedway is located in Radford, Va. The .416-mile oval first opened in 1952, and is entering its twenty-sixth season as a NASCAR-sanctioned facility.
Southern National Motorsports Park, located in Lucama, NC, is a .410- mile asphalt oval track with 17 degree turns, 7 degree straight-a-ways and a 70′ wide racing surface.
