Rockingham, NC(November 2, 2012) — Dillon Bassett picked up his first career pole on Friday afternoon at Rockingham Speedway for the UARA-STARS Series finale tomorrow.
Bassett, the 2012 UARA-STARS Series Rookie of the Year turned a blazing fast lap of 25.198, which was just slightly faster than the second place effort by veteran, Clay Rogers at 25.231. Blake Jones, in his first start for Jamie Yelton’s Fat Head Racing posted the third fastest time with a lap of 25.240. Jones’ effort was especially impressive considering the team had to make an engine change and barely got him out to qualify.
UARA-STARS Series rookie, Brodie Kostecki and veteran Scott Turlington completed the top five. Chris Lawson, who is making his first start this season after spending the season as crew chief to multi-time winner, Ronnie Bassett, Jr. will start sixth. Falcon Racing teammates Travis Swaim, who is also the points leader and former NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver, Mike Skinner will start seventh and eighth.
NASCAR Camping World Truck Series driver, Tim George, Jr. will start ninth with Justin Boston completing the top 10. Former NASCAR Nationwide Series driver, Steve Wallace will start 12th with part-time NASCAR Nationwide Series driver Darrell Wallace, Jr. starting 17th in his first UARA-STARS Series start this season.
Jamey Caudill, who has been among the fastest in practice all weekend had a mechanical problem toward the end of final practice and wasn’t able to back up his practice times with a 19th place qualifying effort. Caudill is also in the car that’s won the most recent races at Rockingham Speedway in the UARA-STARS Series with Corey Lajoie behind the wheel. Lajoie is focusing on his championship effort in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East, which also competes at Rockingham this weekend.
