FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Winston-Salem, NC(May 2, 2012) — Coming off of a tough day at the track at Richmond International Raceway, Ronnie Bassett, Jr. is looking forward to getting back to the track and putting it all behind him in round four of the UARA-STARS Series at Kingsport Speedway.

Last Thursday night, Ronnie, Jr. lined up against some of the biggest names in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series including the series reigning champion, Tony Stewart and it’s most recent winner, Kyle Busch in a charity race for the Denny Hamlin Foundation. The 16 year-old driver got invited to compete in the invite-only race, which pits the best and brightest young drivers in the Late Model Stock Car community against some of the best NASCAR Sprint Cup Series drivers in the country.

Ronnie, Jr. then put himself solidly in the field qualifying 14th, but engine problems in the race kept him from being able to race up into the top ten or higher. He settled for a 12th place finish and while he was disappointed with the run, it was a solid effort, which had him out running Denny Hamlin, Kyle Busch and many other NASCAR Sprint Cup Series stars.

After loading up the car in Richmond, the Bassett Racing team made the trek all the way back to Winston-Salem, NC, unloaded one car and loaded the other and headed off to test at Kingsport Speedway for this Friday’s UARA-STARS Series race. Ronnie, Jr. unloaded fast and with a wave of momentum stemming from his two wins and a second place finish in the the first three UARA-STARS Series races, he’s ready for round four.

“Richmond was heartbreaking for us,” said Ronnie, Jr. “We had a fast car for sure, just no engine to get us up there to compete with those guys. I was disgusted after the race just knowing how good we should have been without the engine problems, but when we unloaded at Kingsport on Saturday for testing, I felt much better.”

“Kingsport hasn’t exactly been one of my best tracks in the handful of starts I have there. But, we unloaded good and we think we’ve got a good car for Friday night. We’ll get to test again on Thursday afternoon and see where we are, but I think we’ll be pretty good.”

Ronnie, Jr. and the rest of the UARA-STARS Series drivers will get to practice for four hours Thursday afternoon beginning at 4:00pm. The race, which will be on Friday night is set to roll off at 8:00pm and will be carried live via pay-per-view on www.MotorsportsBroadcasting.com with updates on RACE22.com throughout the day.
