BLOOMINGDALE, TN :: Chad Finchum scored his third win of the season on Friday night at Kingsport Speedway. Finchum set the fastest lap in qualifying with a 15.180 second lap but had to start fourth after an invert. He worked his way to the lead and was able to hold off several challenges.
Finchum fell as far back as sixth in the early laps but, 20 laps in, he was able to start picking the field off and worked his way to the lead on the outside lane. Finchum had to survive several restarts when a spree of late race incidents kept bringing the caution out. On each restart, he was able to pull away until the field was finally able to get to the checkered flag.
“We were fastest in practice and fastest in qualifying,” said Finchum. “Our car was on a rail. We got shuffled back to sixth around lap 20 but started to work our way back up through the field. We took the lead up the outside and walked a straightaway on the field. We were able to pull away on the restarts and eventually got the win.”
Friday night’s win was Finchum’s third career Late Model Stock Car Victory and his third win of the season – all of which coming at Kingsport Speedway. With the win, he gained points on his main competitors in the Kingsport Speedway Track Championship and the NASCAR Whelen All American Series (NWAAS) Tennessee State Championship.
“It’s always a plus when you’re able to gain points on those other guys,” said Finchum. “We go out and try to win every race and, as long as we keep doing this, we’ll keep getting maximum points and hopefully we’ll have a championship to our name when the season’s done and over with.”
Finchum entered the race eighth in the NWAAS National Standings. He now has three wins, nine top fives and 15 top 10 finishes on the season. He’s been competing at Kingsport Speedway and Motor Mile Speedway.
Finchum will be back in action on Friday night, July 5th at Kingsport Speedway in Tennessee as he looks to expand his points lead in the track’s championship standings.
