MYRTLE BEACH, SC :: Sam Yarbrough appeared to have won another race at Myrtle Beach Speedway as he took the checkered flag and was honored in victory lane celebrations on Thursday night.  The Shallotte, NC driver has been superior in his performance taking four wins in the early racing season.  The win would have been number five for Yarborough.  When the checkered flag waved, the Justin Milliken team filed a protest in writing and posted a teardown bond.  When Yarbrough was informed of the action, his team counter-protested the second place finisher, Justin Milliken.

Both of the protest parties had their cars taken into the garage for disassembly of the protested items for post-race inspection.  The transmissions in both cars and the heads from both motors were impounded and the cars themselves were released and sent home.   Following inspection, the transmissions which were found in compliance of the rules the heads were kept for further review.

The heads on the number 02 of Justin Milliken were found legal and in compliance with the rules.  The Yarbrough car was found to have head that were not in compliance and deemed illegal.  Yarbrough’s win was disallowed and suffered the loss of the winning purse and points for the NASCAR and Myrtle Beach Speedway championship.   Justin Milliken became the winner and now has four wins in 2013.

Yarbrough was the class of the field sprinting away from the field of late models and had led every lap.  He will still lead the championship points at this juncture of the racing season.  Milliken closes the points chase up and unofficially, trails by 20 points in second place.

Matt Cox had his best run of the season and will be credited with second, Stuart Ricks did likewise with a third place and rounding out the top five were Brent Brinson and Sam Scarpell.
