CALLAWAY, VA :: Eight feature events have been placed on the card for Saturday night’s Cavalier Equipment King of the Bullring.  The race will be first time the Late Models have raced under the lights this season with storylines emerging in that division and the rest as well.

Johnny Cash, winless on the season, finds himself sporting a four point advantage over Brian Sutphin in the point standings in Franklin County Speedway’s premier division.  Cash has ridden a wave of consistency with three top-five finishes in four races and a worst finish of only seventh.   Problems in the middle stages of the Wheat Construction 100 on Memorial Day saw Kyle Dudley lose ground in his quest to score his fourth Franklin County Speedway track championship.

Dudley sits 11 points behind Cash but there is no doubt that he has been the story of the season.  Dudley’s feud with Brian Sutphin boiled over for the course of nearly a month and spanned two races.  Last race, Dudley and Sutphin played nice and Dudley showed off a rocket ship before mechanical problems knocked him out of the race, allowing Mike Looney to score the victory.  The irony of that moment stands out because it was Dudley who twice himself had victories aided by Looney’s misfortune.  In fact, the Memorial Day race was the first race all year that Looney finished.  Looney sits fourth in points.

Matt Slusher is on top of the points in the Mod-4 division even though he is also winless on the season, but it’s hard to have a win in that division this season unless your name is Brittany Cockram.  In five races on the season, Cockram has won four of them and, on Memorial Day, she put on a clinic.  Cockram will be wearing a bull’s eye on Saturday night as everyone will be gunning for her and a $200+ bounty that’s been placed on her.  The season has not been without adversity for Cockram.  The lone race she did not win, she did not start and, this past week, her team has been hard at work on the car she calls ‘Shrek’ after mechanical problems in a race at Motor Mile Speedway one week ago.

The story of the season in the Street Stock division has been Danny Bush who has been nearly invincible winning four of the five races run so far and finishing second in the only race he did not win when Gary Ledbetter collected a bounty on Bush.  Bush currently has an 18 point advantage over EL Webb.

The Street ModZ division is currently showing a tight championship battle with Chris Amos, who has three wins on the season, and JC Morgan, who has proven to be Amos’ toughest competitor with two wins on the season.  But that’s not the tightest points battle.  The Mini Cup points show David Burnett two points ahead of Buck Mitchell and Robert Gibson who are tied for second in points.  Each of the three drivers have scored wins in the past three races.  Mitchell has won three races this year while Gibson scored his first career win on Memorial Day.  Burnett has run up front each race and found himself in victory lane on May 18th.

Chad Ricker’s defense of his U-CAR championship has gotten off to a strong start.  Ricker currently has a 33 point advantage over Cary Thomason and Jeremy Dailey who are tied for second in a division that has seen controversy and action every week.  Last time out, it was Patrick Janney scoring the victory on Memorial Day after loose wheels cost Janney two victories just two nights prior to his first win of the season.

Saturday night’s eight division card will feature 100 laps for the Late Models, 25 laps for the Mod-4, Street Stock, Mini Cup, U-CAR, Street ModZ and Southern Ground Pounder features and 10 laps for the Beginner Mini-Cups.  Each division will take time-trial qualifying laps with qualifying beginning at 5:15pm.  Following qualifying, the top six qualifiers in each division will have their starting positions set based on their performance riding a mechanical bull.  Kid’s bike races and spectator drag races will also be held prior to the green flag.  The green flag will drop on the first feature event at 7pm.

Tickets are $25 per carload, $10 per person, $5 for kids ages 6-10 and kids five and under admitted free.
