Mack Little captured the win in the fifth annual Mischa Sell Memorial after starting on the outside of the front row alongside Bradley McCaskill. McCaskill led the entire first 50 laps before stalling his car out on pit road during the mid-race caution.
McCaskill ran away from the field over the course of the first 50 laps before the pre-planned caution to determine the invert for the second half of the 100-lap feature event at Southern National. McCaskill was not available after the race but it appeared to be an issue with the throttle linkage that kept McCaskill from resuming the race.
Colin Garrett in his first time at the track looked to have a fast car but could never quite get it right on restarts, constantly getting hung up on the outside line and being freight-trained, often losing three to five spots on each restart.
“It’s my first race here but they were just killing me on the restarts, I thought I had them and then they got away from me again. Being on the outside really hurt us, this track is not a two-groove track. The bottom rolls so well but everyone seems like they have so much more motor than we do.”
After a late restart with 20 laps to go, Mack Little never looked back, winning his first Mischa Sell Memorial.
For some, Mack was a surprise winner but he never doubted that he could do it, saying “We unloaded yesterday and had a pretty good car but I rode the first half trying to save tires and at the half way break we made a few adjustments. It was a little slow on the restarts but I was just making sure they didn’t get me turned around.”
