Haley Moody is looking to add her name to the history books once more by becoming the first ever Late Model race winner at the brand new Carteret County Speedway in Swansboro, North Carolina.
Moody is heading into Sunday night’s 60 lap feature race, the track’s inaugural race, fresh off a third place finish at Myrtle Beach Speedway in South Carolina — her best finish of the season. That result has boosted the 20-year-old driver’s confidence heading into the inaugural event at Carteret County.
Moody tested on Tuesday to get a feel for the car and the track.
“I feel really good about this race,” Moody said. “The car is good. The track is similar to Myrtle Beach Speedway but it’s definitely its own thing at the same time. It’s fun to drive though and I think we’ll have a good run. Hopefully a win.”
The performance at Myrtle Beach was pivotal to Moody. The sophomore driver has not been able to replicate the success she had in 2014 when she raced primairly at Southern National Motorsports Park. She’s putting her struggles in her rear view mirror and looking ahead to the remainder of the season.
“I would really like for us to get a win at Carteret County,” Moody commented. “Bobby Watson and Adam Resnick have built an awesome facility out here. This place is beautiful. I just hope I can get a win here on Sunday and then celebrate it at the beach on Monday night.”
Carteret County Speedway’s season opener will be held on Sunday night, September 6th at 7pm.
