The fourth running of the Mischa Sell Memorial, which will be run at Ace Speedway in Altamahaw, North Carolina, has been moved from Sunday, October 25th to Sunday, October 18th. Along with the date change, the rules have been changed to only allow GM 603 Crate engines to compete and the race has been expanded to 100 laps.
The date change opens Sunday, October 25th up as a possible rain date, if necessary. Event organizer David Sell, who runs the race in honor of his late wife, Mischa, and Ace Speedway moved the race when noticing conflicts with races being held at other tracks in the region.
“We changed the date to accommodate other tracks that have events scheduled that weekend,” Sell said. “We also understand that consumer dollars are limited and expecting people to attend two events in a weekend is not realistic in today’s world.”
Another change comes with the rule only allowing the GM 603 Crate engine.
“We want this race to be a true Limited Late Model race,” Sell said. “We don’t want to have any overly complicated rules or have a deal where one engine will have an advantage over another, so we’ve limited this to only the Chevy Crate engines that way costs stay low and everyone’s on a level playing field.”
The feature race has been expanded from 74 green flag laps to 100 green flag laps and invitations have been mailed out to over 150 drivers.
The Mischa Sell Memorial is named after breast cancer warrior Mischa Sell who completed her battle with cancer in 2012. The race has been run in October, which falls in line with Breast Cancer Awareness month, every year since 2012. Scott Hall, Joey Throckmorton and Austin Thaxton are the three previous winners of the race.
Proceeds from the Mischa Sell Memorial will benefit the Jack and Jill Late Stage Cancer Foundation.
