RIDGEWAY, VA — When Late Model Stock Car teams converge upon Martinsville Speedway in October for the biggest race of the year, they can expect the Martinsville Hot Dog to have the same taste at the same price.
The announcement that Martinsville Speedway was no longer using Jesse Jones hot dogs for their world famous Martinsville Speedway Hot Dogs was met with mixed reviews. The Valleydale hot dogs, which are now used, are processed in nearby Smithfield, Virginia and the Valleydale hot dogs offer the same taste at the same price.
For Late Model teams, the Martinsville Late Model race, which is held in the first weekend of October, is the biggest race of the year. Over 70 Late Model teams from all across the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast will converge for one of the exciting races in all of short track racing.
A primary concern when the hot dog brand changed was the price. Martinsville’s $2 hot dog is considered the biggest bargain in racing where costs have risen dramatically. In a world where $8 burgers are the norm, Martinsville’s hot dog remains $2. Mike Smith, Martinsville Speedway’s director of public relations, said that the hot dog will remain at $2.
Smith also said that the Valleydale hot dogs were taken down to Daytona International Speedway in February and that the motorsports media never even knew there was a change.
