COPPER HILL, VA :: With another race season approaching, we lay out our plans for 2015 while exploring our accomplishments in 2014. This is our annual report card, from the Editor of RACE22.com – the State of RACE22.com.
We once again shattered traffic records in 2014, recording thousands of readers and, on many occasions, tens of thousands of readers. During the 2014 season, we also took a more focused approach on feature-based journalism, telling the stories of the drivers.
The biggest storyline of the 2014 season was the chase for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series National Championship between Anthony Anders, Lee Pulliam and Keith Rocco. As controversy stewed at Greenville-Pickens Speedway, we were covering it front and center with extensive reporting, commentary and analysis of the controversy.
One of the biggest improvements in our coverage came on the Super Late Model side. We once again covered the Snowball Derby with multiple weeks of pre-race driver spotlights, race previews and more as well as extensive post-race coverage. One of the highlights of the season in Super Late Model racing came with the Winchester 400 and the long road trip from North Carolina to Indiana, the thrill of the race and the drive back.
On the Late Model Stock Car side, we had live coverage of all four crowned jewel events (Langley, Martinsville, Myrtle Beach and Southern National) – along with extensive pre-race and post-race coverage from each of those events with the help of new staff members as well as old staff members reuniting with us for the races.
When we began the 2014 season, we hoped to expand our Limited Late Model coverage and, throughout the year, did just that with coverage of Limited Late Model standalone races, more features about Limited Late Model drivers than in previous years and spotlights on champions in Late Models and Limited Late Models all across the region.
Late in the regular season, we launched Five Star Bodies RACEDAY, a new and innovative way of providing race fans updates from racetracks all across the region in one central hub. As we look to 2015, we will once again use RACEDAY with a new platform, which we are eager to premier later this year. Five Star Bodies RACEDAY LIVE will also return with live, on location, up to the minute updates from races throughout the season.
During the 2014 season, Five Star Bodies RACEDAY LIVE featured live coverage from Ace Speedway, Bowman Gray Stadium, Dillon Motor Speedway, Franklin County Speedway, Greenville-Pickens Speedway, Langley Speedway, Martinsville Speedway, Myrtle Beach Speedway, Orange County Speedway, South Boston Speedway, Southern National Motorsports Park and Wake County Speedway.
We would like to thank everyone who helped us out in 2014 – our best year wouldn’t have been possible without you.
Already, in 2015, we have seen growth with even more coverage down south of the recently re-opened Three Palms Speedway.
The relaunch of the CARS Tour will also see an expansion of RACE22.com coverage throughout the season in terms of even more feature based journalism as we take fans of Late Model racing inside the tour.
Along with keeping to the basics, we have even more new things planned for 2015 so stay tuned.
