COPPER HILL, VA :: We continue our look back at the “Best of 2014” with a look at the five best drivers in Limited Late Model racing. Limited Late Model racing featured some of the most competitive racing this season at several racetracks.

While many drivers could have made this list, we chose the five best based on their performances at multiple racetracks.

5. Mack Little

While Mack Little only scored two victories in 2014 (both at Caraway Speedway), he was competitive anywhere he went – racing at Ace Speedway and Bowman Gray Stadium on a semi-regular basis this season. Little is one of those drivers that will be a factor to win if he shows up at a racetrack and he proved that in 2014.

4. Boo Boo Dalton

Ross “Boo Boo” Dalton was another driver who was competitive at multiple racetracks. Dalton scored four victories in 2014, two at Ace Speedway and two at Caraway Speedway. Midway through the season, Dalton began running at Southern National Motorsports Park where he was a top-five contender every week. There’s little doubt that Dalton is one of the best drivers in Limited Late Model racing.

3. Joey Throckmorton

Joey Throckmorton showed his versatility as a driver late in the season, scoring four wins at three different tracks (Orange County, South Boston and Southern National). Throckmorton had to race against and beat some of the best drivers in Limited Late Model competition to score victories this season. Throckmorton has emerged as an elite driver in Limited Late Model competition over the course of the last two seasons.

2. Clay Jones

Anytime you see Clay Jones at a racetrack, you know he’s going to be the guy you have to beat. Jones amassed 15 wins at two different racetracks in 2014 (Dillon and Wake County). Jones was dominant at Wake County, so dominant that a bounty that was placed on him went uncollected as he finished the season with nine consecutive victories at the quarter-mile bullring in Raleigh. He was also competitive in his appearances at Southern National Motorsports Park, scoring a pair of runner-up finishes in the month of November.

1. Bradley McCaskill

Bradley McCaskill’s six wins at three different tracks (Caraway, Dillon and East Carolina) and his ability to run up front anywhere he went showed that he’s the driver everyone chases in Limited Late Model competition. McCaskill isn’t afraid to venture outside of his comfort zone and, when he does, he’s usually competitive. With a little more luck, McCaskill might have added victories at two more tracks this season. Right now, he’s at the top of his game and is the top driver in the Limited Late Model division.
Looking ahead: We’d like to see more Limited Late Model drivers branch out and run at more than one or two tracks in 2015.
