Zachary Marks will get his 2018 season underway when the CARS Response Energy Tour heads to Wake County Speedway on April 7th.
The 26-year-old from Angier, North Carolina won the track championship in 2008 and 2016 and has been racing predominantly at Wake County Speedway for over a decade. Marks is excited about the elite CARS Tour heading to his home track.
“From the time it was announced that the CARS Tour was making a trip to Wake County, we’ve been really excited about the idea of a bigger tour series coming back to the little bullring,” Marks said. “I know Mike [Stodder] and Charlie [Hansen] both put a lot of effort into getting the tour at Wake County so it’s really cool that the tour is stepping up out of the norm and changing up their schedule to come to Wake County Speedway.”
Marks has never competed in a CARS Response Energy Tour race, but he plans to compete in the Wake County race on April 7th. Marks has wanted to compete in the series ever since it was born from the ashes of the old USAR Pro Cup Series in 2015 and now he finally has the opportunity.
“We’ve really wanted to run some races on the CARS Tour since it was reinvented a couple years back,” Marks explained. “It just never seemed to work out with sponsors or work schedule. When CARS announced its Road Trip to Raleigh, it was the perfect opportunity to try our luck against some of the toughest competition in Late Model Stock Car racing.”
While Marks has a home-field advantage of sorts at Wake County Speedway, the CARS Tour will bring the best drivers in the discipline to Wake County Speedway. Names such as Deac McCaskill, Josh Berry, and Layne Riggs are among those who will congregate to the quarter-mile bullring in early April, making up what will be one of the largest and the most talented field in Wake County Speedway history.
“With Deac McCaskill and Bradley McCaskill having run and won on the tour, they will definitely be tough,” Marks commented. “The biggest thing we want to do is turn around the string of bad luck at Wake County Speedway from 2017 and hopefully get back in winning form and celebrate 20 years with longtime sponsor Schulz Iron Works.”
Marks says he plans to compete in every race at Wake County Speedway in 2018 while running occasionally at Southern National Motorsports Park and Orange County Speedway as well.
