THOMPSON, CT :: In the days leading up to the season opening Icebreaker at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park, Justin Bonsignore said that he hoped 2014 would be the year he finally broke out. Sure, he’d already won three races in his career, but so many expected so much more, including himself.

“We go into every year thinking we are going to have a great year, but this year more than in years past,” Bonsignore told RACE22.com. “We’ve shown that we can be fast. Now we just have to put it together and do that for 14 races.”

Well, Bonsignore and his Ken Massa-owned M3 Tech team certainly put it all together for at least the first race. He was fast in practice, qualified second, and then took down the win, the fourth of his career..

As Bonsignore crossed the finish line he was screaming on the radio in pure joy. Then he said to the team, “Thank you for holding onto me for another year and continuing to believe in me.”

When asked if he said that because he thought they might let him go during the offseason Bonsignore replied, “You never know on this tour. It’s tough. A lot of guys jump around every year.”

Bonsignore is a driver that needs confidence. The strong showing in Florida at New Smyrna Speedway where he won, and of course the Icebreaker victory now has Bonsignore’s confidence soaring.

As he walked out of the Thompson press box he looked back and said, “I’ll talk to you all again after Stafford.”
