New Pro division points leader Anthony Alfredo in the Falk Racing “Flyin’ 5” will lead the return of the Southeast Limited Late Model Series to the “historic half-mile” Greenville-Pickens Speedway on Saturday, May 14th.
The special night will be a late model spectacular that also finds the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series late model stocks running two 75-lap feature events and the track’s pure stocks competing in a points race as well.
That means fans will see over 250 laps of late model racing in a special “Month of May” event!
Alfredo took control of the season standings in the Pro division after a strong run at Greenville-Pickens on April 23rd which saw him lead over 70-laps before being passed late in the race by Dylan Hall, who took the checkered flag but was disqualified in post-race tech, giving the win to Alfredo, who also won a series race last year at Tri-County Motor Speedway in North Carolina.
The 17-year-old will be joined by “The Young One” Luke Sorrow, who won both the Pro division race and the Daytona1 Challenger Division event at Anderson Motor Speedway in March, and Colby “The Kid” Howard, who led every lap of the Challenger race at Greenville-Pickens and finished second to Sorrow in both Anderson starts.
The car counts have increased for each race, and rumors have even more new cars being prepared for this big show.
Fans can expect to see Andrew Cordell, Mitch Walker, Anthony Miller, Mack Little, Blair “Hotshoe” Addis, Thad Moffitt and word is that Hickory top gun Jeremy Pelfrey may see action as well.
“Kelli and I are excited that so many racers have called just since Saturday and told us they want to come and race with us in May,” Series Co-Owner Ed Cox said. “We’ve always had faith that if we could have the right people helping us, we would have something special for the racers. This year, with Anthony (Anders) and his staff backing us up and all the new sponsors coming on board, we’re starting to see good things happen and I think the racers are seeing it, too. We expect an even bigger field in May than we had for this last show and we’re even more excited to have the late model stocks on the card with us as well.”
More and more, the series is becoming a place for the future stars of the sport to cut their teeth in full-size stock cars in an affordable and rewarding environment, while still giving the veteran “weekend warriors” of the limited late model division a fun touring series that keeps the costs in line and pays a nice purse.
“We have the strongest group of young racers that we’ve ever had in the series,” Cox said. “These kids like Sorrow, Howard and Alfredo, they are fast and they race hard and smart. Then you have guys like a Mack Little, who has been around a while and can still get it done anytime they’re on the track. We’re excited to hear that some of the veterans are wanting to come back and we know that as we head into the summer we’ll have even more cars coming and running with us.”
