This weekend the RACE22.com staff is hitting the roads in all directions, and there is plenty of racing to go around. All you “die-hards” have no shortage of racing entertainment somewhere close to you, get out and support your local track!
We’ll start off Friday night with two big events, the UARA series at Tri-County Speedway, and the Late-Models will take to the track at Ace Speedway, headlined by the Nascar Whelen Southern Modifieds. The UARA event is going to be packed with talent, as Matt McCall goes for two in a row at Tri-County, and two in a row starting this season in the UARA. He’ll have some stiff competition from the UARA regulars, as well as some locals including last weeks winner at Tri-County, RA Brown.
At Ace the battle between Speedy Faucette, Rodney Cook, and newcomer to their war, Dustin Rumley, will rage on once again. Last week it was Faucette getting the best of them, but after finishing second Dustin Rumley looks like a new driver this year and is poised to go to the top. Rodney Cook has stated he won’t race at Ace full-time, but after last weeks close battle, he promised to return this week to take the win.
In the mods it’s anybody’s race, but if Brian King gets his motor ready in time, the competition had better watch out. He is the master at Ace, having dominated the track for years in the Ace modified division, then moving to Late-Models with the same results. He went full-time in the Whelen Southern Mod Tour in 2006 and picked up the win at Ace the same year. Andy Seuss is coming off his win last week at South Boston, and looks to have better luck at Ace this year after getting wrecked out last year in a first lap incident with LW Miller.
Another “big” event this weekend will be the “Easter Bunny 150”, for the PASS south series at the famed Hickory Motor Speedway on Saturday. This will be the first of 4 “National” PASS races that includes the Northern and Southern Divisions which will decide an overall National Champion. The race at Hickory has always been chalked full of talent, and the 2009 edition looks to be better than ever. Corey Williams will be back to defend his Easter Bunny title, but race #1 winner at Dillon, Ben Rowe, will have plenty to say about that.
The Rowe family has already tasted victory lane in this race before, with Ben’s dad Mike taking the first ever event back in 2006. Throw in names like Johnny Clark, Preston Peltier, Hal Goodson, Ryan Moore, Justin Wakefield, Jay Fogleman, Ryan Blaney and DEI driver Aric Almirola, and this could be the race of the year. If that wasn’t enough, Hal Goodson will be trying for two in a row in the newly formed truck series that will boast a hefty number of trucks at Hickory.
With the touring stuff out of the way, you can get your fill on the weekly racing series at South Boston Speedway. With Motor Mile off this weekend, Philip Morris will be back to pick up where he left off winning the first event 2 weeks ago at the speedway. He’ll have his work cut out for him as Nick Smith looked to have his machine totally hooked up last weekend scoring a win in twin 75 lappers with Justin Johnson.
The weekend will be stacked full of racing action, and we’ll bring you the news on all the developments here on RACE22.com
