SOPHIA, NC :: Tommy Lemons, Jr. scored his third win of the season at Caraway Speedway on Friday night. Lemons started second and led on two occasions on his way to victory with a new car. Lemons managed to win the race despite losing power steering in his car and struggling with his car in the race.
“We struggled when we unloaded,” said Lemons. “We tested this car and struggled with it but we were able to get it dialed in.”
Lemons qualified in third and started second when the top four cars were inverted. Lemons took the lead on the first lap but lost it early in the race. Lemons continued to ride around in second when he lost power steering. Despite the loss of power steering, Lemons continued to pursue the lead and would retake the lead around lap 60 and would hold the top spot on his way to his third win of the season.
“It’s awesome to win after all the challenges,” said Lemons. “Our guys worked hard all day long to get this car in tune. It was great to come out here to Caraway Speedway and win and I’m hoping we can keep this momentum going as we head in to our next few races. We’ve been running strong lately and I hope we can keep up the good performances.”
Lemons was scheduled to run at Motor Mile Speedway on April 27th in the season opening race and the fourth race of the Dirty Dozen series. Lemons finished second at Southern National Motorsports Park on May 4th. Lemons also competed at Southern National on Saturday, May 11th where he finished second. His next race will be at Motor Mile Speedway on May 18th.
