TROY, NC :: Tommy Lemons picked up his fourth win of the season and his third win at Southern National Motorsports Park on Saturday night during one of two twin 100 lap Late Model races on Saturday night.  He also picked up a second place finish in the second of two races.

Lemons qualified sixth for the first race with a 15.631 second lap.  He started working his way through the field during the race, turning in fast laps all race. Lemons moved to second by lap 58 and inherited the lead on lap 74 when the leader’s car fell off the pace.  Lemons went on to win the first of two races.

“Our car was really good,” said Lemons.  “The car was definitely good in race trim.  We worked our way through the field.  We had a little luck in that first race but I’d rather be lucky than good.  Fortunately, we were lucky and good tonight. “

The top eight cars were inverted for the second race, relegating Lemons to an eighth place start.  He would not stay back there for long.  By lap 11, Lemons was in third place.  Lemons took the second position on lap 16 and then worked his way to the lead on lap 44.  Lemons led until being passed on lap 60.  He would hold on to finish second.

“We had a strong car in the second race but someone was just a little better than us,” said Lemons.  “All in all, it was a good night.  There were full fields in both races so a win and a second place finish, it will be a good points for us in the (NASCAR Whelen All American Series) National points.  Our team worked hard all day and night and I’m glad I was able to bring home a win for them tonight.”

Lemons has four wins, 20 top five finishes and 24 top 10 finishes in the 2013 season.  Prior to this past weekend, Lemons was sitting fourth in the National Standings.  By virtue of his win and his second place finish at Southern National, he should gain points over his main competitors for the National Championship.

Lemons also competed in the Rusty Harpe Memorial at Caraway Speedway on Friday night, July 5th where he finished fourth in a full field.

“It was a great weekend as a whole for us,” Lemons remarked.  “I hope we can have more weekends like this from here on out.  We’ve got Motor Mile coming up and I’d really like to get some wins out there this year.  I’m just hoping we can keep this momentum going.”

Lemons will be back in action at Motor Mile Speedway on Saturday, July 13th.
