After the recent passing of his grandfather, East Carolina Motor Speedway veteran Thomas Burbage is hoping to score a big win in Saturday night’s season opening race at East Carolina Motor Speedway.

Burbage’s grandfather, Jim Burbage, Sr., passed away on Monday, April 20th at the age of 77.  He was the car owner and the primary funding for Thomas Burbage’s racing efforts.  A victory in Saturday night’s race would be big for Burbage for several reasons.

“It would mean a lot to win with my grandfather passing away,” Burbage, 36, from Bath, North Carlina, said.  “He was the team owner so it would mean a lot to bring that money home and bring that trophy to him.”

Last season, Burbage scored three wins at East Carolina Motor Speedway – all consecutive.  This year, he hopes to score at least three more wins.

“I hope to get at least three more,” Burbage commented.  “The car’s good.  Team’s ready.  We’re definitely prepared to win some more races.”

If he is able to race the full season, Burbage says he will chase the East Carolina Motor Speedway track championship.

“If I’m able to run all the races, I think we have a chance,” Burbage remarked.  “With my grandfather passing and he was the primary funding for the team, paid for most of the, everything.  Pretty much done it all.”

The season opening race at East Carolina Motor Speedway, dubbed the Roberson Rumble, will be held on Saturday night, May 2nd.  RACE22.com will be there for the first time with Five Star Bodies RACEDAY LIVE up to the minute coverage from the race.
