LOUDON, NH :: Todd Szegedy will be making just his second start of the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour season this weekend, but it comes at a track where he’s had a great deal of success.
The 2003 champion has made just one NWMT start so far this season, which came a little over a week ago at Riverhead Raceway. However, he has been running full time on the Valenti Modified Racing Series in New England and is currently the series points leader.
Now that Szegedy isn’t full time on the NASCAR circuit he said he has just one goal for the weekend. “Ultimately we want to win everything.”
He should have a good shot at doing just that, because he definitely knows how to get it done at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. Szegedy has three wins at NHMS. He’s actually the most recent winner at the track. He scored the win last September with a last lap pass on Donny Lia.
“You’ve got to put yourself in position,” he said. “With five to go you’ve got to be up there. You’ve got to be leading or top five. It’s almost always going to be a last-lap pass.”
Szegedy ran the Riverhead race in Bill Park’s no. 20. His night ended prematurely thanks to a stuck throttle that led to a multi-car crash in turn one.
This week Szegedy will pilot Rob Fuller’s no. 15 around the Magic Mile. The car is a brand new chassis from LFR Chassis Inc., a company that Fuller owns. It’s the first chassis to come out of the shop and it’s only been on track in a test session.
“We want to go out there and showcase the car and show what the car has,” said Szegedy. “Judging by the test session we had a couple weeks back the car is going to be extremely fast.”
