BEALETON, VA :: Fresh off a championship in the Pennsylvania-based Super Cup Stock Car Series, JJ Pack is now setting his sights on superspeedway racing in the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards.
Pack, 38, will be making his ARCA debut in next Saturday’s Lucas Oil 200 presented by Auto Zone at the Daytona International Speedway racing for Mullins Racing – a team that has raced predominantly on road courses in ARCA and SCCA competition.
Last season, Pack scored three wins in the Super Cup Stock Car Series and was so dominant that he finished no worse than second on the 2014 tour. Pack has a long history of oval racing, competing in Late Model Stock Cars from 2001-2004 at Old Dominion Speedway, racing against the likes of Mark McFarland, Dustin Storm, Mike Darne and Michael Hardin among others, and occasionally at South Boston Speedway. He also raced off-and-on in the old Hooters Pro Cup Series for several seasons, scoring five top-10 finishes in 25 career starts.
“Willie [Mullins] reached out to me to do the test at Daytona to see if I could get my superspedway clearance in case I ever decided to run the ARCA series,” Pack said. “He felt like I handled the car a lot better because I’m used to oval racing and I seemed more confident. We’re going to put three or four races together.”
Pack will also race at New Jersey Motorsports Park, Pocono Raceway and Michigan International Speedway. Pack feels confident about making the field for the Lucas Oil 200 and hopes he can come away with a strong finish.
“First, I’ll qualify and I have a feeling we probably will. I would like to finish inside the top-five honestly. Top-10, we would be happy.”
Along with his part-time ARCA schedule, Pack will compete full-time in the Super Cup Stock Car Series tour.
The Lucas Oil 200 presented by Auto Zone at Daytona will be run on Saturday, February 14th at 4:15pm EST and can be seen live on Fox Sports 1 and the Fox Sports Go mobile app.
