KANNAPOLIS, NC :: Daniel Hemric is one of the hottest names in short track racing after winning the championship in the inaugural Southern Super Series presented by Sunoco tour. Now, the rising young star takes his talents to Myrtle Beach in the Late Model feature and hopes to win the biggest prize of them all, the 46th Snowball Derby.
Along with the Southern Super Series title, Hemric also won the Buddy’s Blizzard Series championship at Five Flags Speedway in Florida and the Sunoco Gulf Coast Championship Series at Mobile International Speedway in Alabama and Five Flags Speedway. Hemric won four races, two in the Southern Super Series and two in the PASS South Super Late Model Series.
“It was one of the most gratifying things to accomplish in a Super Late Model,” Hemric said about winning the Southern Super Series championship. “Jake and Deanna Carswell and the entire team gave me everything I needed to compete for a championship. It was huge for me and everyone else who put their heart and soul in it all year.”
Hemric’s two Southern Super Series victories came at Five Flags Speedway and at Mobile International Speedway. He scored two victories in the PASS South tour, those victories coming at Southern National Motorsports Park in North Carolina and Dillon Motor Speedway in South Carolina.
Now, Hemric’s returning to South Carolina for the 21st Annual Myrtle Beach 400. Hemric will be competing in the 200-lap Late Model Stock Car feature for Sharp-Gallaher Racing where he hopes to find himself in contention to win the race.
“Really, you want to go there be solid and put yourself in position to win,” Hemric stated. “I’m excited about being in a LMSC for one of the first times and compete with different guys. My goal is to go down there and be in contention to win.”
After Myrtle Beach, Hemric will turn his attention to the 46th Annual Snowball Derby at Five Flags Speedway. Hemric won the track championship at Five Flags and now he sets his sights on Super Late Model racing’s biggest prize.
“It’s the most excited I’ve ever been about going to a big show after all our success this year in the Blizzard Series,” Hemric remarked enthusiastically. “I’m excited and the team is excited.”
Hemric is locked in to the Snowball Derby by virtue of winning the Southern Super Series championship.
“Being locked in takes away the stress of having to qualify for the race and takes a lot of weight off your shoulders,” Hemric explained. “Not having to worry about qualifying, you can work on your car in race trim and be prepared for 300 laps.”
Hemric got his start running in Go-Karts before moving up to Legends and Late Models. He got interested in racing by watching NASCAR racing on television with his family. Hemric has raced all over the country, saying he’s probably been to over 100 tracks.
Hemric is supported by Carswell Motorsports, Jack Links Beef Jerky, Valvoline, JRi Shocks and Racing Electronics. He recorded 10 top-five finishes and 13 top-10 finishes in the Southern Super Series tour and five top-five finishes in the PASS South tour. He has also competed in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour.
