LUCAMA, NC :: The 2015 schedule for the 4/10 mile speedplant Southern National Motorsports Park was unveiled this morning at the Piedmont Racers Expo with an action packed 15 race schedule.
Southern National Motorsports Park will kick off the 2015 season with the Inaugural event for the newly re-branded CARS Racing Tour. CARS will feature a unique dual race format with 150-lap twin events for Super Late Models and Late Model Stock Cars. The series will kick off its 2015 season on Saturday, March 28th.
“We’re proud to be the host track for the inaugural CARS event,” said track Promoter Langley Austin. “This series has the potential to be huge and we think Southern National is the perfect place to kick this series off. Plus having them open our season should help to build excitement for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series opener for us as well.”
Southern National’s NASCAR Whelen All-American Series (NWAAS) season will kick off the following week with an Open Practice for all divisions on April 4th. The 2015 season will officially kick off for the NASCAR Home Tracks divisions on Saturday, April 11th with the Spring BreakOut event. The event will feature the first of three Enduro events along with racing in all the regular NWAAS divisions.
The second event of the 2015 season will be staged on Sunday, April 26th. The event will be a marquee spring race special coming the day after the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Richmond International Raceway. More details on this event will be announced in the next couple weeks but be sure to mark your calendar as you won’t want to miss this race.
Mother’s Day weekend will bring about the third NWAAS event of the 2015 season on Saturday, May 9th. This night will feature all regular divisions plus will be the first of two stops for the Southern Ground Pounders Vintage division. This date will also feature the Champ Karts from Virginia’s Langley Speedway.
CARS returns for the second of two stops at Southern National on May 30th with June featuring two dates for the NWAAS divisions on June 13th and June 27th. With the weather heating up in July so does the action at Southern National as the Summer Classic takes place on July 11th. Two special events are scheduled for the next four weeks at the track on July 25th and August 15th. Details on those events will be announced in the coming weeks.
The NWAAS season comes to a conclusion with two final events as the region’s best drivers chase State and National points. August 29th will be Back to School night and September 12th will be a tribute to 9/11 and our regions first responders. September 12th will serve as the final event of the regular NWAAS season.
Two big events will highlight the final two months of the racing season in October and November. The second annual Halloween Spooktacular will take place on October 31st and the 15th installment of the prestigious Thanksgiving Classic will take place November 27-29th. Details on the final two events will be released at a later date.
“We’re excited about what 2015 has in store for Southern National Motorsports Park,” commented Austin. “This is a rebuilding year for the track. We’re making huge changes and while the schedule is shorter than it’s been in recent years, we feel as if we have a lot to offer fans and drivers alike.”
Austin also says to expect many more announcements in the coming weeks with some major events being planned.
“There are still a lot of things in the works and to be announced in the coming weeks. By no means are we done. We’re looking to make this the best season at Southern National and we feel we’ve got a great plan to make drivers, teams and fans excited about what we have going on.”
