Bobby McCarty scored his first career victory in the second of two Late Model races at South Boston on Saturday night.
McCarty won the Limited Sportsman championship at South Boston Speedway in 2012 and moved up to Late Model Stock Cars in 2013. He has scored several top-five finishes throughout the past three seasons at South Boston but has never won a race — despite coming close on a handful of occasions.
“We had some bad handling issues the first race,” McCarty said. “Dad made some great changes and the car was awesome. We just needed some more forward drive but just glad to get a win. Its been along time and my crew deserved it.”
Matt Bowling edged Lee Pulliam in the first of the two races. Bowling and Pulliam raced side-by-side for the final five laps of the race. Bowling won by a margin of 0.170 seconds.
