PENSACOLA, FL :: It’s Snowball Derby race day at Pensacola Five Flags Speedway, and we’ve got the actual race start time, the starting lineup and some other facts about the Super Bowl of Super Late Model racing.
What time does the race start today?
As is tradition, the Snowball Derby will start at 3 p.m. EST (2 locally). The command to fire engines and the official start of the race will begin shortly after the top of the hour.
Race name/distance: Today’s race is the Snowball Derby, which is scheduled for 300 laps and 150 miles to close out the Super Late Model season.
Radio and live streaming: For the first time in event history, the Snowball Derby will be streamed over the internet via Speed51.com’s 51TV online streaming service. For those that did not purchase the weeklong package, the single-day Snowball Derby broadcast can be accessed for $24.99.
*** NOTE: If you’re out and about today and can’t watch to the race, make sure to follow me (@MattWeaverSBN) on Twitter. I’ll be tweeting live updates throughout the event. ***
Tickets: Five Flags Speedway has not announced a complete sellout but grandstand tickets are sparse and limited to general admission seating. If you are in the area and have decided to come out, plan to park in the Fairgrounds parking lot to receive a free shuttle ride to the ticket booth.
Weather: The weather along the Gulf Coast is as perfect as it gets on Sunday. The race day forecast for the Snowball Derby will be somewhat cool with temperatures in the mid-60s with a zero percent chance of rain.
Last year: One year ago, Chase Elliott crossed the finish line first but was disqualified in post-race technical inspection, handing the victory over to Erik Jones. The achievement was the second such of his career and Jones will be looking for the three-peat on Sunday afternoon. For the second year in a row, Jones will be driving for the powerful Kyle Busch Motorsports organization.
Below is the starting lineup for the 47th Annual Snowball Derby. The top-30 spots were decided during qualifying with Garrett Jones, Ty Majeski, Kyle Plott and Cole Timm earning the final four positions during a last chance race on Saturday night.
Southern Super Series regular Hunter Robbins is on the pole and will be joined on the front row by his girlfriend, Johanna Long, who he bumped from the top spot during Friday time trials.
