SOUTH BOSTON, VA :: Peyton Sellers swept twin Late Model features at South Boston Speedway with late race passes in both races on Saturday to score his first and second wins of the 2014 season. His two wins on Saturday match his win total from 2013.
“We build a lot of momentum last year with a lot of second place finishes,” Sellers stated. “It was nice to come out of the box with all our work starting to show. Tony Keen is my crew chief and he stuck by me. We’ve been working all winter to try to make it better and we made some gains on it.”
The Sellers Racing team had a strong showing overall on Saturday with all four cars qualifying inside the top-five. In the first of two races, Sellers Racing swept all three podium positions with Sellers winning, Matt Bowling finishing second and Jeb Burton finishing third. Sellers and Bowling went on to finish first and second in the second race.
“We had a good showing as a team overall,” Sellers said. “All our cars were up front running well. Michael Maresca, Matt Bowling and Jeb Burton were all cars and four of five cars in the top five in qualifying so it was a feather in our cap because we worked all offseason on this car to make it better and had a good showing right out of the gate.”
Sellers took satisfaction in the victory, saying the team’s worked hard all through the offseason to improve the quality of his cars.
“This is a car we built ourselves. It took some work last year. It’s too early to say, I don’t have a full schedule. I’m not going to run 50 races. We’ll take it week by week and if we have money in the account to race, I’ll race.”
Sellers feels the Sellers Racing program is stronger than it has been in year’s past. His main focus will be Motor Mile Speedway where he feels he could win the track championship. He will also mount a charge in the Virginia Triple Crown, which he won last year.
“We want to win races and be competitive and if that means taking a week off here or there to get it right, we will. Motor Mile is my focus. Those six nights suit my budget right now. We were second in points last year. Lee was tough so we’ve got to keep getting better and better and raise the bar.
“The Virginia Triple Crown is also a great opportunity to run for another championship and all three races mean a lot. We’ll race for the Triple Crown. The problem is Motor Mile runs Friday Night and the Hampton Heat 200 (at Langley Speedway) is Saturday night.”
Sellers’ two victories at South Boston came in his first two starts of the season.
